Ernest Rutherford

In 1911, he was the first to discover that atoms have a small charged nucleus surrounded by largely empty space, and are circled by tiny electrons he also the first person to split an atom. Ernest Rutherford postulated the nuclear structure of the atom, discovered alpha and beta rays and proposed the laws of radioactive decay. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908
